General Salon Questions

Why do you recommend a salon shampoo over a drug store brand?

Most drugstore brands are packed with ammonium lauryl sulfate, the cheapest and most damaging of sulfates. This is very damaging to hair, and will even strip away your color. High-end products are generally Sulfate free and those that still contain sulfates use sodium laureth sulfate, which tends to be the gentlest of the sulfates, removing excess oils as opposed to stripping your hair of all oils. This small difference makes all the difference when it comes to maintaining vs. damaging your hair.

What is the best way to keep my natural curl using a blow dryer?

Use a product with an anti humidity agent and always use a defuser. The trick is to only dry hair until 80% dry.

How often should I come in to keep my current hair cut looking fresh?

4 to 6 weeks is recommended for longer styles, this ensures that your hair stays happy and healthy! Shorter styles may have you visiting the salon sooner as it is more noticeable when it grows out, 3-4 weeks is recommended for these styles.

How long does a lash tint and a brow tint last?

Both tints typically last three to four weeks, but it can vary from person to person. Some clients see the tint start to fade after two to three weeks. You can help extend your dye job by keeping brows moisturized.

What is a balayage?

French for sweeping, it is the technique in which lightener or color is applied to create a modern look.

Should my hair be washed or unwashed for my updo?

Hair should not be washed on the day of the updo appointment. Unwashed hair holds a curl much better, there is a texture to the hair compared to clean hair that is slippery. With that in mind, don’t let the hair get too dirty. Hair that is too dirty will have a harder time responding to any manipulation. Day 2 dirty hair is typically preferred for most stylists.

Is a hair trim the same as a haircut?

Yes! Whether cutting 6 or 1 inches, it still requires sectioning the hair, possibly adding layers, making sure it is even and finishing it with a style.

Do I have to use heat (blow dryer) with my product for volume?

Typically, yes. Heat activates the product, so if you are looking for volume you would want to blow dry to maximize your volume. However there is always an exception to the rule, some powder products and sprays do not require heat. It is always best to double check the product packaging and ask your stylist questions when you’re in the salon!

Permanent Cosmetics

What are “permanent cosmetics”?

Permanent Cosmetics, also referred to as micro-pigmentation, cosmetic tattooing or dermal-pigmentation, are a process whereby completely natural pigments are implanted beneath the epidermis (top layer of skin), into the dermal layer (second layer of skin), by micro insertion. This technique has been medically developed and specifically designed for a safe permanent application.
The pigments used have been specially formulated for cosmetic application. Not to be compared with traditional tattooing, in which permanent skin dyes and inks are placed into the skin.

Who would benefit from permanent cosmetics?

Everyone from the young to the elderly, who desire a natural enhancement to their appearance.

Are the permanent cosmetics safe?

Yes! Rhonda uses an all organic pigment that is free of all inks, metals, and dyes. The pigment is safe for X-Rays and MRI’s.
Allergic reactions to permanent cosmetic procedures are extremely rare. The cosmetic pigments are made from completely natural ingredients, and disposable sterile needles and surgical gloves are used for each procedure.

Does the permanent eyeliner hurt?

This may vary according to each individual’s pain threshold, however, topical anesthetics are used to numb the area and minimize discomfort. Most people describe a mild pricking sensation.

How long does the appointment last?

Rhonda books out an hour for most procedures. The hour includes the time it takes you to fill out the required paper work, the consult before, the time it takes you to numb up, and the actual procedure.

Will I be able to drive/work after getting the permanent cosmetics?

Yes! You will look as though you have been crying and in some cases there may be some slight bruising. Rhonda requires that for 5 days after having the procedure done you keep the area clean, with a thin coat of Vaseline or A&D ointment on the tattoo so it doesn’t scab. With the eyeliner she asks that during those 5 days you avoid wearing mascara.

How long does the permanent make-up last?

The permanent cosmetics is a tattoo. It doesn’t penetrate as deep as other tattoos, but it is permanent. After 6 or so years you will start to notice it fade, more so if you are in the sun often.

How much does the permanent eyeliner cost?

The procedure costs $200. This does include the top and bottom liner. If you want only the top or only the bottom it will still be the full charge.

How many appointments will I need for the permanent cosmetics?

Four to six weeks after the initial application, a follow-up visit may be required to perfect the lines or color. This visit does not require as much time as the initial procedure. If you come in before 3 months after your original appointment, there is no additional charge for this visit.
